In addition to my work as a published fiction author, I have more than twenty five years’ experience leading communications initiatives, projects and branding work, with transferable skills in strategy development and execution, communication planning, content development, presentations, project management and facilitation. After several years as a freelance Brand consultant and business writer, I was brought on full-time to oversee the company’s in-house marketing team. Gained an in-depth view of the publishing industry from the publisher side, directed marketing initiatives to promote authors and build readership, and managed direct reports plus outside vendors. And, of course, continued to write copy for PR, marketing, blog posts, business proposals, creative briefs, and author marketing plans!

Assisted Xavier Leadership Center in all of its marketing needs to both end users (attendees of professional training programs) and industry partners (companies seeking to create customized training programs for employees.) Also taught Personal Branding for Organizational Success programs to business employees and via keynote speeches at conferences, networking events, and as part of customized programs. Responsibilities included website and newsletter copywriting, managing marketing initiatives, brand management and development, and special projects to help promote a new initiative within the pharmaceutical and bio-tech division of the Center.

Coordinated public relations, corporate intranet/internet content, and extensive direct mail programs from concept to completion, for an organization that went from startup to $2.3 billion in assets within five years. 

Provided strategic direction and content development for corporate communications, advertising, direct response media, public relations, marketing and outreach activities. 

Created and launched marketing initiatives for new products and service initiatives. 

Wrote or edited majority of company materials for consumer, business-to-business, investor, media, and governmental audiences.

Since leaving position, have continued to work in consulting capacity to write annual reports and create personal branding, target marketing, and practice management modules from concept to completion.

Analyzed need for and directed branding overhaul to establish regional and national presence for an organization undergoing dramatic change. Company was successfully sold within six months of initiative.

 Directed company’s first in-house marketing communications team, managing creative staff to produce collateral materials, print and online media, and design of trade show promotions.

Previous to 1999, I worked at Great American Life Insurance and Great American Insurance, gradually developing as marketing communications specialist, special projects communicator, manager and copywriter.
